💭 The 1PM Manifesto

🚥 Mission

As medical students, we know what it’s like to be overwhelmed by the vast amounts of knowledge we’re expected to retain, to be lost in a sea of resources, only to remember none of it.

It’s all too much, so we’ve decided to do something about it. We’re on a mission to break down complex medical topics into their first principles, minimising the noise, to maximise the understanding.

So the next time you’re asked a tough question that you might not know the answer to, you’ll be able to fall back on these principles, and reason your way out of trouble.

🔐 What We Value

🙃 Stupid Questions Only

These are the questions that everyone has but no one wants to ask, for fear of looking foolish. At 1PM, we actively encourage these so called “stupid questions”, as we believe in their necessity to fully understand a topic, laying a solid foundation of first principles upon which to build a lifetime of future learning.

💧 Less is more

Knowing everything may be possible for some, but unrealistic for many. But that’s okay. We believe not in knowing everything, but in knowing enough about everything so that we can work it out.

We believe that truly understanding a few first principles enables you to derive most answers and problem solve in unfamiliar or high pressure situations (think OSCEs or when a consultant asks a question).

Answering a question is easy when you know the answer, but how do you answer a question which is unfamiliar or presented in a new context….that’s when first principles kick in and “scramble mode” is activated.

🕺🏽 The Everyman

We aim to be the people’s podcast. We welcome anyone and everyone. In fact, the podcast often runs better if you don’t know anything about the topic.
